MedStudy Expiring Flash Card Review Instructions

Log in and go to the Q&As / Flash Cards manager

  1. Go to my.medstudy.com
  2. Log in using your email address and password; if you forgot your password, click “I forgot my password”
  3. At the top of the page, click Hello, [your name] in the header to display a dropdown selection; then, select Submit / Review Q&As. This will bring you to the main entry page for reviewing Flash Cards.

Create a list of expiring flash cards and select your 1st card

  1. To begin a review, click the red button labeled Start a review.
  2. A list of current live Flash Cards to be reviewed for your topic will be displayed. On the upper right side of the page, you will see the total number of Flash Cards waiting to be reviewed. Note1: To the left of the card is a green status box. The status at this point is “Accepted,” which means that the flash card has been previously accepted and is now a live question in the online flash card app.
  3. You may choose any Flash Card from the list. Simply click the card, and you will begin your review. If you are uncertain and would like to view the flash card first, click on either Show Entire Question or View Preview.
    Note2
: Once you open a flash card, it is cloned, given a new Question ID number, and assigned to you. It will disappear from the live flash cards list. This card will remain assigned to you until you Submit it (finished with the review) or Reject it (question worthless; Rare! You can almost always rework any flash card into a great new one).
  4. Once you begin the review, you'll be taken to the main flash card editor page.
  5. If you do not finish this flash card during one session, it will remain assigned to you and you can finish it the next time you log in. But remember to click Save & Close or all of your changes will be lost!

If you made a mistake and don't want to review the flash card:
Once a flash card is selected, you are now the assigned reviewer of this card. If you decide you do not want to review the card, click the Select Action button at the bottom right of the page and and choose Don’t review. This will return the card to the list for someone else to take.

If the concept is no longer relevant and the question is worthless (Rare!):
In the
Activity and Comments box at the bottom of the page, type in why you are choosing to reject the flash card. Once you’ve entered your comments (required), click Select Action and select Reject (question is no good). You will be returned to the list of flash cards to begin reviewing another one. Again, usually the flash card can be revised to improve it.

If you want to create some new flash cards:
After reviewing all the flash cards in your batch, you may think of topics that have not been covered but are highly relevant for improving clinical practice or reviewing knowledge in order to pass board exams. We appreciate your willingness to create new flash cards. Please follow the steps at the end of this document (“Create new flash cards”).

Start a Review

As the subject expert, we are counting on you to review the flash card content for accuracy, relevance, updates, guidelines, and current standards of care. Revise as needed. Here are the important steps in the review process:

  1. Select the correct topic: On the top left side of the page is a listing of the topic > subtopic > subsubtopic. This listing is based on, and should match, the table of contents of the core curriculum section associated with your questions.
You should have received a PDF of the core section, which includes a table of contents.

If the listing is incorrect, click the
change topic link to the right of it and select a primary topic and continue to drill down and select the most appropriate subtopics until you reach the correct topic level—usually there will be no subtopic options left. At this point, click the green Select this topic box next to your last selection, which will save all the selections above it. Note: If only a main topic is displayed in the list, it means that you must select the main topic and then go through the process of selecting the correct subtopic and subsubtopics.
If you are unable to find the correct subtopic in the table of contents of the core section, click “miscellaneous” as the primary topic and an editor will figure out what to do.

    Note3
: The (view xx existing) comment to the right of the Select this topic box shows the number of flash cards already in this topic or subtopic.
    Note4
: Topic designation is an incredibly important step. It integrates this flash card with all other material on this topic in our online products—so it must be correct! Some material in the core curriculum table of contents or this flash card listing may have been added, deleted, or reworded since the flash cards were originally written, so please contact us if you have any questions about this.
  2. Review the Question Stem, Question, Answer, and Explanation. You may modify any of these elements as necessary to ensure the flash card is relevant, accurate, and of high quality. At the top right corner of each element, you will see a tiny notes icon (“Add a comment”). If you click this icon, it allows you to read existing comments on that section, and you may add new comments regarding that element of the flash card.
  3. Documenting your activity: When you are finished with the flash card, scroll down to the Activity and Comments text box at the bottom of the page; type in “Reviewed(very important!) for your Activity and then a few words about what you revised/updated. Note that text is required in this Activity and Comments text box.
  4. Finishing: Now you are finished… BUT…you must save the changes! Click the blue Select Action button and select Save & Close to save your review and continue it at a later time; or select Submit—if your review is complete. You will be returned to the list of live flash cards where you can select another.

Continue to review “in-progress” flash cards
  1.  If you select Save & Close after your unfinished review of an assigned flash card, you can continue the review of that card at a later time.
  2. Once you are logged in, click More in the toolbar at the top of the page to display a dropdown selection; then, select Submit / Review Q&As.
  3. Click the red Continue a review button, and you will be taken to a page with a list of flash cards currently assigned to you that you saved but did not yet submit. These are sorted in order of Question ID number.
  4. To work on this card later, click the Select Action button and select Save & Close.
  5. To submit, click the Select Action button and select Submit.
